The matrix has multiple jobs
The dissolvable matrix must support filling or casting, form projections, survive demolding and handling, remain stable in the pack and behave consistently during use. It may also carry compatible cosmetic ingredients. Optimizing only one property can weaken another.
Raw-material choices matter
Molecular characteristics, viscosity, grade, supplier specifications and variability can influence process behavior. A material that works in a topical serum may not automatically work in a micro-array process.
Balance strength and dissolution
A patch must be sufficiently robust for manufacturing and application while still meeting the intended use behavior. Geometry, residual moisture, supporting polymers and humectants can affect this balance. Acceptance criteria should be observed on the finished patch, not inferred from the bulk mixture.
